These are editable scripts (which means you can view and edit the source code by dragging and dropping it on the Script Editor icon), which change the File Type and Document Creator of files.
There are several scripts included:
HTML-2-CyberStudio
Doc-2-PDF
Doc-2-Movie Player
Doc-2-QuarkXpress 4
Doc-2-QuarkXpress 3
Doc-2-Graphic Converter
These little applets are perfect if you get alot of files from the web, copied off of CD's, or from service bureaus that are made on a platform other than the Macintosh. Once a file has been modified by the appropriate script, you can then double-click the file to open it in the prefered application, assuming you have that application.
The folder called "Blank Icon For Your Own Scripts" has a custom icon you can use for any scripts you make.
How do I use this script applet?
To use a script, drag and drop an appropriate file(s) onto it's icon. That's it! You could keep all of these converters in a pop-up folder on your desktop, a layer in your Drag-Thing palette, or in your launcher, so that they are handy when you need them. Please be warned however:
A) These scripts will only convert files, not folders.
B) These scripts are blind. If for example, you drop a Word Perfect document onto the Doc-2-PDF applet, the document will have a PDF icon, but Adobe Acrobat won't be able to read it, because it's not actually a PDF file.
What can I do with the script?
If you are a clever scripter, you can edit my script so that it converts lots of other documents to specific application files, if you wish. You are welcome to edit, modify and re-distribute this script but you must agree to this:
A) You must include your uncompiled and editable source code with the release. This is important so that other scripters can learn from your work, just as you may learn from mine.
B) You must give me credit in your documentation, with the Apple-Matic URL as well. I like to see my hit counter go up :)
If you make changes to my applets, I prefer that you do it to a new file, with a new name and that you remove my name and descriptions from them. Also note that if you open and save these files the custom icon will be turned off after you've saved the file.
